What we clear in Webster
Eight things we are actually asked for on Sumter County ground. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.
One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.
A fifth of an acre is a real job we have done here. Small parcels and awkward strips are normal work in this county.
Palmetto, briar and privet taken out from under the oaks and pines you are keeping.
A line you can run wire along, cut without disturbing the pasture either side. Steady work in cattle country.
You mark what stays and we cut round it. On pasture ground the shade oaks are worth keeping.
Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives.
Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.
Rides through a block, and a cut line between your buildings and the scrub.
Who calls us in Sumter County
A fifth of an acre up to half an acre is what we have actually cleared here. Small does not mean we are not interested.
Pasture edges closing in and fence lines disappearing into the growth.
Clearing the envelope, the drive and the pad before the builder mobilises, so the site is ready rather than a delay.
The bit along the road, between two buildings, or behind a barn that a mower cannot get to.
A parcel nobody can walk is a parcel nobody buys. A machine day changes what a buyer is looking at.
On small parcels this is the one arrangement that genuinely lowers the cost per lot.
How the work runs
Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.
Pictures with something in frame for scale, the parcel size, and a note on what you want left standing. On a small parcel one wide shot is usually enough.
Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote. Everything we have done in this county has been a single day.
The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which is where most of the cost and all of the mess normally sits.
Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. It holds the surface through the wet months and slows down what comes back.

What it costs
We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. On a small parcel that cuts both ways: a fifth of an acre still needs a machine, an operator and a trip, so it costs closer to a day than to a fifth of one.
Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine for a small parcel or a pasture edge
Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport
Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run
What moves the day count
The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.
What we have actually done in Webster
Two finished jobs and two machine days, both in 2024. Small parcels, single days.
| Mar 2024 | A fifth of an acre, 1 machine day |
| Nov 2024 | Half an acre, 1 machine day, with the skid steer mulcher |
| Wildwood | Two more jobs up the road, a quarter acre and a half acre, 1 machine day each |
| Bushnell | One more job in the county |
Five jobs across Sumter County and five machine days, every one of them a single day. Nothing we have been asked for in this county has been larger than half an acre, which is worth saying plainly: if you have several acres, our Hernando or Alachua record is a better guide to what to expect than this one.
The ground on a Sumter County parcel
| What grows here | Live oak and laurel oak with cabbage palm on the better ground, longleaf and turkey oak on the sandhill, and palmetto, briar and privet through anything grazed out or left standing |
| What that means for a machine | Small parcels on this ground are quick. Sandhill carries a tracked machine easily and there is little standing water on the higher ground to work round |
| Water | Flatter and wetter towards the south of the county, drier on the sandhill. A wet week matters on the low ground and barely at all on the ridge |
| Access | Farm gates, pasture tracks and small town streets. Old fence wire buried in a line is the most common surprise and it costs day count when we find it |
The smallest parcel we have cleared in Sumter County, and it still took a machine, an operator and a day. On small ground, pairing with a neighbour is what moves the price.
What customers say
FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.
Jenny AndersonWe had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.
Joseph KellyThese guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.
Adam WilsonBefore you book: trees on a Sumter County parcel
Sumter County and the City of Webster each have a say depending on where your parcel sits, and agricultural land is treated differently from a residential homesite.
What is protected depends on the species, the size of the trunk and how the land is classified. Mature live oaks tend to attract more attention than understory growth, and bona fide agricultural operations are generally handled differently from clearing for development.
Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If the parcel is in agricultural use, say so, because it changes which questions are worth asking.
We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Sumter County or the City of Webster before you commit.
Webster questions
How much does it cost to clear a small parcel in Webster?
From $3,000 a machine day. Both our Webster jobs were single days, at a fifth of an acre and half an acre. Be aware the day is the unit, so a very small parcel costs closer to a day than to a fraction of one.
Is my parcel too small to bother you?
No. The smallest we have cleared in this county is a fifth of an acre. If you can coordinate with a neighbour who wants the same work, that is where the saving is.
How long does it take?
One machine day, five times out of five across Sumter County. Nothing here has run to two days yet, though nothing here has been larger than half an acre either.
Will you clear a fence line?
Yes. A cut line you can run wire along without disturbing the pasture either side. Warn us about old wire in the growth, because that is the thing most likely to add a half day.
What happens to everything you cut?
It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. On ground you intend to graze again that layer is doing useful work.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the species and size of what is standing, whether you are inside the City of Webster, and how the land is classified. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.
Are you licensed and insured?
Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
