Usually the same day. On the same month in 2024 we sent the dedicated mulcher to one Zephyrhills parcel and the excavator mulcher to another, both three and a half acres. Which one your ground needs is the main thing that moves your bill.

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Zephyrhills shows why the machine matters as much as the ground: two parcels of exactly three and a half acres in the same month, one on the dedicated mulcher and one on the excavator mulcher, both finished in a single day.

What moves the day count
The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

The two July 2024 parcels are the useful pair. Identical acreage, same month, both finished in a single day, but they needed different machines. The rates for those two machines are not the same, which is why we ask what is standing and whether roots have to come out before we quote rather than after. Pasco County and the City of Zephyrhills each have a say depending on where your parcel sits. Worth a look before you decide what comes down.
What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and whether the parcel is a single family homesite or land being developed. Larger specimen trees and live oaks are generally treated more carefully than understory growth, and agricultural land is treated differently again.

How much does it cost to clear land in Zephyrhills?
From $3,000 a machine day on the skid steer, $3,500 on the excavator mulcher and $4,000 on the dedicated mulcher, plus transport on the bigger two. On a three to four acre parcel here the day count has been one, so the machine choice is most of your bill.
Which machine will you bring?
Whichever the ground needs, and we will tell you which before you book. In July 2024 we sent the dedicated mulcher to one three and a half acre parcel and the excavator mulcher to another in the same month. Roots coming out is what usually points to the excavator.
How long does it take?
Two of our three Zephyrhills jobs were a single machine day at three and a half acres each. The two and a half acre parcel in March 2024 took two days, which shows again that acreage is not the driver.
Can you clear an old citrus block?
Yes, and it is regular work in east Pasco. The rows give the machine a line to work along. Where stumps and roots have to come out as well, that is the excavator and grubbing rather than a mulching head.
What happens to everything you cut?
It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. It holds the sand through the summer storms and slows down what comes back.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the species and size of what is standing, and on whether you are inside the City of Zephyrhills or in unincorporated Pasco County. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.
Are you licensed and insured?
Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
