What we clear
Ten things we are actually asked for. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.
One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks. This is most of what we do.
Palmetto, gallberry, briar and scrub taken out from under trees you are keeping, so the stand is open ground rather than a thicket.
A platted lot that has grown in, cleared in place because on a lot that size there is nowhere to put what comes off it.
You mark what stays and we cut round it. On most jobs the list of what stays is longer than the list of what goes.
Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher, and the only machine we run that does it.

Who calls us
Envelope, drive and pad taken down before the builder mobilises, so the site is ready rather than a delay. This is the commonest reason people call us.
A parcel left a few seasons that nobody can walk. A machine day or two turns it back into something you can stand on and measure.
An overgrown lot in a made street generates letters. A machine day is usually the whole answer.
Ground nobody can walk is ground nobody prices properly. Opening it up changes what a buyer is looking at and what they will pay for it.
Pasture going back into use, old grove rows, firebreaks, ground between timber rotations. Opening ground back up rather than clearing it for the first time.
Worth reading the costs section below before you accept it. An acreage price has to assume what is standing, and that assumption is wrong often enough to matter.
How the work runs
Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.
Pictures with something in frame for scale, one from the road, and the acreage. Tell us what you want left standing and whether any of the ground stays wet.
Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote, and on a multi day job we tell you the count before anything moves.
The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. Nothing is stacked at your frontage waiting for a truck, and nothing is burned.
Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. That layer holds the surface together until something is built or planted on it.

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. A day is eight hours of machine time on your ground. What we work out from your photographs is how many of them your job needs.

What moves the day count
The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.
What each machine will and will not take
Three machines, three rates, and the limits are published rather than described vaguely.

Which of the three your job needs is the single thing that most moves what you pay, and it is not something you should have to guess at. Send photographs and we will tell you which machine we would bring and why. If your job needs something we do not run, we will say that instead of sending the wrong machine and charging you for the day.
What Florida ground does to a day count

Every county and city in Florida writes its own tree rules and they are not the same. What is protected depends on the species, the size of the trunk, and how your parcel is classified.
Land in genuine agricultural or silvicultural use is usually treated very differently from a residential homesite, and removing listed invasive growth is usually treated differently again from removing a native tree. Which of those you are in is the first thing to establish, because it changes both the answer and which office gives it.
If your parcel sits inside a city limit, the city is your authority rather than the county, and municipal rules in Florida tend to be the stricter of the two. If you are not sure which side of that line you are on, say so when you send photographs.
We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with your county or city before you commit.
Questions we get asked
How do you price a job?
By the machine day, against published rates. We work out a day count from photographs and the acreage, and that day count is the quote. We do not price by the acre, because an acre of open pasture and an acre of twenty year old scrub are not the same job and no acreage price can tell them apart.
Which machine will my job need?
That is the question we answer from your photographs, and it is the main thing that moves the price. Stems under 8 inches go on the skid steer. Heavier standing growth goes on the dedicated mulcher. If the roots have to come out rather than the top being ground off, that is the excavator and it is a different job.
What is the difference between mulching and grubbing?
Mulching grinds the standing growth off and leaves the root plate in the ground. Grubbing takes the roots out. Grubbing is excavator work, it costs more, and it is only worth paying for if something is going on top of that ground.
Do you work in my county?

Do you need to visit before quoting?
Usually not. Photographs and an acreage are normally enough for a day count, and we would rather give you a provisional number quickly and confirm it than hold you up. If something in the photographs is unclear we will say so rather than guess.
What happens to everything you cut?
It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing is piled, nothing is burned and nothing is trucked away. On most sites that layer is the point rather than a side effect, because it holds the surface together.
Do I need a permit?
Possibly, and it depends on the species, the size of the trunk and how your parcel is classified. Every county and city in Florida writes its own rules and they are not the same. Confirm it with whichever office covers your parcel rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.
Are you licensed and insured?
Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
