Who calls us in east Pasco County
This is the high sandy end of the county rather than the flat coastal end, and it drains. The scheduling risk that comes with wet ground further west is much smaller up here.

Live oak is the reason a lot of people bought the parcel. Clearing under it rather than through it is ordinary work and we would rather be told which trees matter before we start.

How the work runs
Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.
Pictures with something in frame for scale, the parcel boundaries if you know them, and one shot from the road. Say what is standing that you want kept.
Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote.
This matters here more than most places, because the two answers cost different money. Grinding the top growth off and taking the roots out are not the same job.
Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. On sand hill ground that layer is what keeps the surface from moving before anything is planted or built.

What moves the day count
The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

Dade City is an incorporated city, so ground inside the city limits answers to the city and ground outside it answers to Pasco County. Which side of that line you are on changes who you ask.
What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and whether the parcel is an established homesite or land being developed. Live oak is the tree most likely to be treated as protected on this ground, which matters here because live oak is also the thing people most often want kept.

What is the difference between mulching and grubbing?
Mulching grinds the standing growth off and leaves the root plate in the ground. Grubbing takes the roots out. Grubbing is excavator work, it costs more, and it is only worth paying for if something is going on top of that ground.
Can you clear under my oaks without taking them?
Yes, and it is ordinary work here. Mark the trees that stay, or walk them with us in photographs, and we cut round them.
What happens to everything you cut?
It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. On sand hill ground that layer holds the surface together.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the species and size of what is standing, and on whether you are inside the Dade City limits or in the unincorporated county. Confirm it with whichever of the two applies rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.
Are you licensed and insured?
Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
