How the work runs
Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.
Pictures with something in frame for scale, the lot size, and a note on what you want left standing. On a small parcel one wide shot is usually enough.
Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote. If we think the ground will need a second day we say so before you book.
The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which is where most of the cost and all of the mess normally sits.
Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. It holds the surface through the wet season and slows down what comes back.

What it costs
We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. That cuts both ways on a small parcel: a fifth of an acre still needs a machine, an operator and a trip, so it costs closer to a day than to a fifth of one.

What moves the day count
The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.
What we have actually done in Punta Gorda

Three of the four were single machine days, and the largest parcel was one of them. The acre and a half in March 2026 took two, which says more about what was standing on it than about its size. Three of the four recorded a machine and all three ran with the skid steer mulcher. Across Charlotte County we have finished ten jobs and twelve machine days.

Charlotte County and the City of Punta Gorda each have a say depending on where your lot sits. Worth a look before you decide what comes down.
What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and native species are treated differently from invasive exotics such as Brazilian pepper. Mature live oaks tend to attract more attention than understory growth, and work near a canal or the harbour may involve more than the county.

How much does it cost to clear a lot in Punta Gorda?

My parcel is tiny. Is it worth calling?
Yes, and we have cleared a fifth of an acre here. Be aware the day is the unit, so a very small parcel costs closer to a day than to a fraction of one. If you can pair it with a neighbour, that is where the saving is.
How long does it take?
Three of our four Punta Gorda jobs were a single machine day. The exception was an acre and a half in March 2026 that took two, because of what was standing on it.
Has storm regrowth made things worse?
On some parcels noticeably, yes. Pepper and tangled storm timber come back thick, and a lot left untouched through a couple of seasons is a bigger job than the same lot was before. It is still one pass, it just takes longer.
What happens to everything you cut?
It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. On a platted street that matters, because the alternative is a line of trucks past your neighbours.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the species and size of what is standing, and on whether you are inside the City of Punta Gorda or in unincorporated Charlotte County. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.
Are you licensed and insured?
Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
