What we clear in Micanopy

Eight things we are actually asked for on this ground. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.

Selective clearing under big oaks

The job this ground is really about. You mark what stays, we cut round it, and the canopy comes through untouched.

Forestry mulching

One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.

Underbrush removal

Briar, privet and camphor cleared out from under a canopy people bought the place for. The most common ask here by a distance.

Lot and pasture clearing

Ground that has closed in since it was last grazed or mown, back to a surface you can walk and work.

Excavator clearing and grubbing

Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.

Home site preparation

Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives.

Trail and ride cutting

A drive line in from the road, or a ride through a block cut so the ground is usable without opening the canopy up.

Fence and boundary lines

A line you can run wire along or walk, cut without disturbing the old trees either side of it.

Who calls us in the prairie edge of Alachua County

Owners of oak canopy ground

The live oaks are why people buy here. Almost every job on this ground is about what is underneath them rather than the trees themselves.

Owners fighting privet and camphor

Both take hammock ground fast and both shade out everything native underneath. Getting them off is normal work and getting them gone is a different job.

Small farm and pasture owners

Grazing ground that has gone back to briar and cedar since it was last used, brought back to something a mower can follow.

People about to build

Clearing the envelope, the drive and the pad before the builder mobilises, so the site is ready rather than a delay.

Owners near the prairie

Ground on the low side where the water sits longer and the growth is different from the hammock a hundred yards away.

Sellers and agents

A parcel nobody can walk is a parcel nobody buys. A day with a mulcher changes what a buyer is looking at.

How the work runs

Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.

Send photographs

Pictures with something in frame for scale, the acreage, and a clear note on which trees stay. On this ground that note is the most important part of the message.

We give you a real number

Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote.

One machine, one pass

The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which is where most of the cost and all of the mess normally sits.

You get a mulch layer

Not bare ground and not a field of cut stems. Under a kept canopy that layer also slows the privet and briar coming back, which otherwise happens inside a season.

What it costs

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Three acres in two days here is quick going, and it is quick because the work was underneath a canopy rather than through it.

Skid steer mulcherFrom $3,000

Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine for working under a kept canopy

Excavator mulcherFrom $3,500

Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport

Dedicated mulcherFrom $4,000

Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run

What moves the day count

Which trees stayPrivet and camphor densityWorking room under the canopyLow ground towards the prairieOld fence wireAccess and gate width

The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

What we have actually done in Micanopy

Two finished jobs, four acres, three machine days, Apr 2025 to Dec 2025.

Apr 2025One acre, 1 machine day
Dec 2025Three acres, 2 machine days
The pairFour acres, 3 machine days, roughly an acre and a third a day

Three acres in two days is fast by our own standards, and the reason is that the work was understory rather than standing timber. Neither scope records which machine went, so we will not tell you it was one rather than another. If your ground has heavy stems in it rather than briar and privet, expect a different day count and send photographs so we can say what it is.

The ground on the prairie edge

What grows hereLive oak, laurel oak and magnolia on the hammock, with Spanish moss on most of it, longleaf and turkey oak on the sand ridges, and privet, camphor and briar filling in underneath wherever the canopy has been left alone
What that means for a machineUnderstory work under a canopy is quick if the stems are small, and the constraint is working room rather than power. Heavy privet with old stems in it is slower than it looks from the road
WaterThe prairie is the defining feature. Ground on the low side holds water and behaves nothing like hammock a short distance uphill, and the two often sit on the same parcel
AccessCounty roads and long drives under trees. Overhead clearance on the drive in is worth a photograph here, because it is the constraint that catches people out rather than gate width
1.3 acres

A machine day across both jobs here, because the work was under the canopy rather than through it. Understory clears faster than standing timber, which is why we ask what is standing before we quote.

What customers say

★★★★★

FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.

Jenny Anderson
★★★★★

We had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.

Joseph Kelly
★★★★★

These guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.

Before you book: trees on an Alachua County parcel

Alachua County and the Town of Micanopy each have a say depending on where your parcel sits, and this is a part of Florida where mature trees are protected seriously and enforcement is real.

What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and whether the parcel is a single family homesite or land being developed. Mature live oaks attract more attention here than almost anywhere else we work, and removing understory is usually treated very differently from taking a canopy tree down.

Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If there is any mature oak near the work, settle its status with the right office before anyone books a machine rather than after.

We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Alachua County or the Town of Micanopy before you commit.

Micanopy questions

How much does it cost to clear land in Micanopy?

From $3,000 a machine day. Our two jobs here were one day and two days, for one acre and three. Send photographs and we will give you a day count rather than a range.

Can you clear under the oaks without damaging them?

That is the standard job here and it is what the mulching head is for. You mark what stays, the machine works round it, and the canopy is untouched. Tell us clearly which trees you mean, ideally in the photographs.

Why was three acres only two days?

Because it was understory rather than standing timber. Briar and privet under a canopy clear quickly. The same three acres of heavy stems would be a longer job and we would say so before you booked.

Can you get rid of privet and camphor for good?

We can take them off the ground in a pass, and that is what most people want. Getting them gone rather than knocked back means the roots come out, which is excavator work at a different machine and rate. Say which you are after.

What happens to everything you cut?

It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. Under a kept canopy that chip layer also slows the regrowth down.

Do I need a permit?

Quite possibly, and more likely here than in most of the state. It depends on the species and size of what is standing and whether you are inside the Town of Micanopy. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
