Land Clearing in Starke, Florida
Forestry mulching, underbrushing and land clearing across Starke and Bradford County. One machine cuts, grinds and spreads in a single pass, so nothing is piled, burned or hauled off your place.
- Priced from photographs, usually same day
- Two acres here went in a single machine day
- From $3,000 a machine day
What we clear in Starke
Eight things we are actually asked for on Bradford County ground. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.
One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.
Old grazing and row crop ground that has gone back to scrub, brought back to a surface you can work.
Gallberry, yaupon and briar taken out from under planted pine or standing hardwood you are keeping.
You mark what stays and we cut round it. On a small farm the yard trees are usually older than the house.
Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.
Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives.
A line you can run wire along or walk, cut without disturbing the timber either side of it.
A lane in from the road, a break round a block, or a line cut so a truck can reach the back of the place.
Who calls us in Bradford County
Ground that has been in one name a long time and has grown in since anyone last worked it. Most of what we see on this sort of ground.
Blocks between rotations, or understory that has closed in since the last thinning.
Clearing the envelope, the drive and the pad before the builder mobilises, so the site is ready rather than a delay.
Old pasture gone to scrub. A mulcher leaves a chip layer and a surface rather than a field of stobs.
Ground on the sandhill and lake country south of town, which behaves differently from the flatwoods north of it.
A parcel nobody can walk is a parcel nobody buys. A day with a mulcher changes what a buyer is looking at.
How the work runs
Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.
Pictures with something in frame for scale, the acreage, and a note on what you want left standing. Show us the heaviest stems, because that decides the machine.
Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, and it names the machine, because the machine is most of the difference.
The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which is where most of the cost and all of the mess normally sits.
Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. On ground going back into grazing that layer is a head start rather than something to clean up.

What it costs
We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Our one job here took two acres down in a single day, and it did that because we sent the dedicated mulcher at $4,000 plus transport rather than the skid steer. Fewer days on a bigger machine is not automatically a smaller bill.
Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine for a lot or a small parcel
Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport
Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run
What moves the day count
The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.
What we have actually done in Starke
One finished job, two acres, a single machine day, Dec 2024. That is the whole Bradford County record and we would rather show it than pad it.
| Dec 2024 | Two acres, 1 machine day, with the dedicated mulcher |
| The county total | One job, 1 machine day. This is the only Bradford County job on our books |
| Either side of the county line | Seven finished jobs in Clay and eight in Alachua, on similar ground |
One job in this county, and we are not going to build an average out of it. The honest thing to say is that we have worked a great deal on the ground immediately either side of the Bradford line, in Clay to the east and Alachua to the south, and that the ground does not change at a county boundary. Judge us on the whole record rather than on one row.
The ground on a Bradford County place
| What grows here | Longleaf and slash pine over the flatwoods north of town, sandhill and turkey oak on the lake country south of it, live oak and hickory round the old home places, and gallberry, yaupon and briar underneath |
| What that means for a machine | Sandhill and open flatwoods are good going. Old hardwood with heavy stems in it is what pushes a parcel onto a bigger machine, and that is exactly what happened on our job here |
| Water | Branch bottoms and the lake margins south of town hold water into the spring. The sandhill drains fast and works nearly all year |
| Access | County roads and sand tracks. Gate width is the usual constraint and it is worth a photograph before the day rather than on it |
Plus transport, for the dedicated mulcher that took two acres here down in a day. Fewer days on a bigger machine is not automatically a smaller bill, so we quote the machine and the day count together.
What customers say
FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.
Jenny AndersonWe had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.
Joseph KellyThese guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.
Adam WilsonBefore you book: trees on a Bradford County place
Bradford County and the City of Starke each have a say depending on where your parcel sits, and land in genuine agricultural or silvicultural use is treated differently again.
What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and whether the parcel is a single family homesite, farm ground, working timber or land being developed. On small farm ground the agricultural questions come up as often as the tree by tree ones do.
Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If the parcel is in a farm or timber programme, say so early, because that changes which office you should be asking.
We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Bradford County or the City of Starke before you commit.
Starke questions
How much does it cost to clear land in Starke?
From $3,000 a machine day on the skid steer with transport included. Our job here ran on the dedicated mulcher, which starts at $4,000 plus transport, because of what was standing. Send photographs and we will name the machine as well as the day count.
You have only done one job here. Why should I use you?
Fair question, and we would rather answer it than dodge it. One job in Bradford, two acres, one day. But we have finished seven in Clay to the east and eight in Alachua to the south, on ground that does not change at the county line. The whole record is on this site.
Why did two acres need the biggest machine?
Because of the stems that were standing. The dedicated mulcher gets through timber that would take the skid steer far longer. It is the dearest machine we run and we only send it when it is the right one, which is decided from photographs before the day.
Can you clear old pasture back to grass?
Yes, and it is common work on this sort of ground. The head grinds the scrub off and spreads it as chip, so you get a surface and a mulch layer rather than a field of cut stems.
What happens to everything you cut?
It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the species and size of what is standing, whether you are inside the City of Starke, and whether the land counts as agricultural or working timber. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.
Are you licensed and insured?
Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
