What we clear in Green Cove Springs

Eight things we are actually asked for on the river side of Clay County. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.

Forestry mulching

One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.

Acreage and tract clearing

Four and five acre tracts are what we have actually run here, which is bigger than the county average for us.

Underbrush removal

Palmetto, gallberry and briar taken out from under pines and oaks you are keeping.

Home site preparation

Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives. Steady work on this side of the county.

Selective clearing

You mark what stays and we cut round it. River side hardwoods are usually worth working round rather than through.

Excavator clearing and grubbing

Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.

Trail and firebreak cutting

Rides through a block, and a cut line between your buildings and the timber.

Fence and boundary lines

A line you can run wire along or walk, cut without disturbing what is either side.

Who calls us in Clay County

Owners of four to five acre tracts

The size we have actually worked here. Big enough to need real planning, small enough to finish in a working week.

People about to build

Clearing the envelope, the drive and the pad before the builder mobilises. This side of the county is building steadily.

River side property owners

Ground running towards the St Johns where the understory has closed in and the hardwoods are worth keeping.

Pasture and small holding owners

Grazing ground reverting to scrub, put back into use without a burn permit.

Developers of small parcels

Ground that needs to be presentable and passable while permitting runs, without staging a haul operation.

Sellers and agents

A tract nobody can walk is a tract nobody values properly. A few machine days changes what a buyer sees.

How the work runs

Four steps, and on a multi acre tract the second one decides the week.

Send photographs

Pictures with something in frame for scale, the tract size, and a note on what you want left standing. On four or five acres send several, because the growth is rarely uniform.

We give you a real number

Usually the same day. In September 2025 we ran a four acre tract and a five acre tract here, four machine days each, on two different machines. We will tell you which one your ground needs and why.

One machine, one pass

The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which on several acres is where the cost would otherwise run away.

You get a mulch layer

Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. Across a few acres that layer is what keeps the surface where it is through the wet months.

What it costs

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Green Cove Springs is where our Clay County day count actually accumulates: three jobs and nine machine days, against four jobs and four days at Keystone Heights up the road.

Skid steer mulcherFrom $3,000

Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine recorded on four acres here in four days

Excavator mulcherFrom $3,500

Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport

Dedicated mulcherFrom $4,000

Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run

The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

What we have actually done in Green Cove Springs

Three finished jobs and nine machine days, from October 2024 to September 2025. Bigger ground than the rest of the county.

Oct 2024One acre, 1 machine day
Sep 2025Four acres, 4 machine days, with the skid steer mulcher
Sep 2025Five acres, 4 machine days, with the dedicated mulcher
Elsewhere in Clay CountyFive more jobs, mostly single days at Keystone Heights and Middleburg

Nine acres across two tracts in one month, on two different machines, four days each. That is roughly a day an acre, which is a useful planning number for multi acre ground on this side of the county and noticeably slower than the single day acres we see at Keystone Heights. All three jobs recorded a machine: two skid steer and one dedicated mulcher.

The ground on a Green Cove Springs tract

What grows hereSlash pine over saw palmetto and gallberry on the flatwoods, live oak and sweetgum on the better ground, and bottomland hardwood running down towards the St Johns. Wetter and heavier than the sandhill country west of here
What that means for a machineRoughly a day an acre on multi acre tracts, against a comfortable single day for an acre on the sandhill twenty miles west. Heavier understory and damper ground account for most of the difference
WaterRiver side flatwoods with swales and low ground that holds water into the spring. Tracked machines cope but slow, and on a four acre tract that shows up as a whole extra day
AccessRural roads and farm tracks, generally wide enough. On multi acre work the question is whether a low loader can get the bigger machines in, so photograph the entrance and the turn off the road
9 acres

Cleared across two tracts in a single month at Green Cove Springs, on two different machines. Roughly a day an acre is the planning number on this side of Clay County.

What customers say

★★★★★

FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.

Jenny Anderson
★★★★★

We had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.

Joseph Kelly
★★★★★

These guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.

Before you book: trees on a Clay County tract

Clay County and the City of Green Cove Springs each have a say depending on where your tract sits, and ground near the St Johns may involve the water management district as well.

What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and whether the parcel is a single family homesite or land being developed. On multi acre tracts the county may take an interest in wetland edges and buffers rather than only in individual trees.

Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If the tract runs down towards the river or has wet ground on it, say so, because that is worth settling before machine time is booked.

We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Clay County, the City of Green Cove Springs or the water management district before you commit.

Green Cove Springs questions

How much does it cost to clear land in Green Cove Springs?

From $3,000 a machine day. On multi acre tracts here plan on roughly a day an acre: our four acre tract took four days and our five acre tract took four. Send photographs of the whole block and we will give you a day count.

Why is it slower here than at Keystone Heights?

Heavier understory and damper ground. An acre on the sandhill west of the county is a comfortable single day. River side flatwoods run closer to a day an acre. Same county, genuinely different ground.

Which machine would you bring?

It depends on what is standing. In September 2025 we ran the skid steer on one tract and the dedicated mulcher on the other, in the same month. We will tell you which yours needs and what it costs before you book.

Can you clear several acres in one visit?

Yes, and that is the efficient way to do it. Nine acres across two tracts in one month is what we actually ran here. The machine is on site and the transport is already paid.

What happens to everything you cut?

It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. On several acres that is the whole economic argument, because the alternative is a burn programme or a lot of truck loads.

Do I need a permit?

It depends on the species and size of what is standing, on whether you are inside the City of Green Cove Springs, and on how close the tract runs to the river. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.

Send photographs of the whole tract, the acreage and a note on what you want left standing. On multi acre ground we would rather spend an hour on the quote than get the machine choice wrong.
