How the work runs
Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.
Pictures with something in frame for scale, the lot size, and a note on what you want left standing. On a small lot one wide shot and one of the thickest corner is usually enough.
Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote. On the smallest lots here we have quoted and worked half days.
The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which is where most of the cost and all of the mess normally sits.
Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. It holds the surface through the wet months and slows down what comes back.

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Interlachen is the one place on our books where the lots have been small enough that a half day has genuinely made sense, and we have worked one.

What moves the day count
The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

Four jobs in three and a half machine days, and every one of them ran with the skid steer mulcher. The quarter acre lot in June 2025 came in at half a day, which is the only half day in our whole record. If your lot is genuinely small, say so, because it may not need a full one. Across Putnam County we have finished nine jobs in nine machine days, most of the rest at Palatka.

Adam WilsonBefore you book: trees on a Putnam County lot
Putnam County is rural and much of it is in timber or agricultural use, which is treated differently from a residential lot in one of the platted subdivisions. Worth a look before you decide what comes down.
Silvicultural work conducted under an approved forestry practice is generally handled differently from clearing for development, and the rules that apply to a subdivision lot are not the ones that apply to a timber block. Work close to one of the lakes or to the St Johns River may also fall under the water management district rather than the county.
Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If your lot runs down to water, mention it, because that is the case most worth confirming before anyone books a machine.
We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Putnam County or the water management district before you commit.

How much does it cost to clear a lot in Interlachen?
From $3,000 a machine day. Lots here are small enough that this is one of the few places we have quoted and worked a half day, on a quarter acre lot in June 2025. Send photographs and we will tell you honestly whether yours needs a full day.
Can I book a half day?
Sometimes, and Interlachen is the place it has actually happened. It depends on the lot being genuinely small and the access being straightforward, because we still have to get the machine there. Ask rather than assuming either way.
How long does it take?
Three of our four Interlachen jobs were a single machine day and one was half a day. Nothing here has taken longer than a day. Wet ground near the lakes is the thing most likely to push it.
Can you mulch under planted pine without hurting the trees?
Yes, and it is regular work in this county. The head takes the understory out and the rows give the machine a line to work along. Mark anything you particularly want protected.
What happens to everything you cut?
It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. On sandhill ground that layer holds moisture at the surface through the dry months.
My lot runs down to a lake. Does that change anything?
It might, and it is worth confirming before we book. Ground near the water grows differently and works slower, and depending on how close you are the water management district may have a say as well as the county.
Are you licensed and insured?
Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
