What we clear in Williston

Eight things we are actually asked for on Levy County ground. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.

Forestry mulching

One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.

Underbrush removal

Palmetto, briar and privet taken out from under the oaks and pines you are keeping.

Pasture and paddock clearing

Grazing ground coming back to scrub, put back into use without a burn and without hauling anything off.

Fence line clearing

A line you can actually run wire along, cut without disturbing the pasture either side. Steady work in horse country.

Selective clearing

You mark what stays and we cut round it. Live oaks are usually the whole reason a Levy County parcel is worth what it is.

Excavator clearing and grubbing

Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.

Home site preparation

Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives.

Trail and firebreak cutting

Rides through a block, and a cut line between your buildings and the timber.

Who calls us in Levy County

Horse and cattle owners

Pasture edges closing in and fence lines disappearing. Mulching puts the ground back into use without a burn permit.

Small acreage owners

Five or ten acres bought for space, with a few acres of it no longer walkable.

People about to build

Clearing the envelope, the drive and the pad before the builder mobilises, so the site is ready rather than a delay.

Owners of thick overgrown ground

The parcel everyone else has quoted high on. We would rather tell you it is a four day acre than pretend it is a one day acre.

Sellers and agents

A parcel nobody can see across is a parcel nobody buys. A machine day usually shows the buyer what they are actually looking at.

Timber and land owners

Blocks between rotations, or ground where the understory has closed in since the last thin.

How the work runs

Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard. On this county the second one matters more than usual.

Send photographs

Pictures with something in frame for scale, the parcel size, and a note on what you want left standing. Photograph the thickest part, not the tidiest, because that is what sets the price here.

We give you a real number

Usually the same day. One acre in Williston took us four machine days in February 2024. We would rather tell you that up front than discover it together on day two.

One machine, one pass

The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which is where most of the cost and all of the mess normally sits.

You get a mulch layer

Not bare ground and not a field of cut stems. It holds the surface through the wet months and slows down what comes back.

What it costs

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Williston is the best argument we have for why: one acre here took four machine days, and another acre took one. The acreage was identical. The growth was not.

Skid steer mulcherFrom $3,000

Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine for a clean acre or a paddock edge

Excavator mulcherFrom $3,500

Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport

Dedicated mulcherFrom $4,000

Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run

What moves the day count

Trees you want keptWet groundOld fence wireAccess and gate widthHow thick the growth really isSeveral parcels in one visit

The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

What we have actually done in Williston

Four finished jobs and seven machine days, from November 2023 to May 2025. The spread between them is the useful part.

Nov 2023Two acres, 1 machine day
Feb 2024One acre, 4 machine days, with the dedicated mulcher. The slowest acre on our books
Apr 2025One acre, 1 machine day
May 2025One acre, 1 machine day

Three of the four were single machine days, including a two acre parcel. The fourth was a single acre that took four days and needed the dedicated mulcher. Same county, same year, four times the day count on a quarter of the ground. That is why we will not quote from an acreage figure alone. Three of the four recorded a machine: two skid steer and one dedicated mulcher.

The ground on a Levy County parcel

What grows hereLive oak and laurel oak with cabbage palm on the hammock ground, longleaf and turkey oak on the sandhill, and palmetto, briar and privet filling anything grazed out or left. The variation between two neighbouring parcels here is wider than in most counties
What that means for a machineEverything. A thin pasture edge is a comfortable day. Old hammock that has closed in over decades is genuinely slow, and the dedicated mulcher earns its rate on it. This is the county where photographs matter most
LimestoneKarst country, with rock close to the surface in places and the occasional sink. A mulching head grinds rather than digs, which suits it, but it is worth telling us if you know of soft ground or an open sink on the parcel
AccessFarm gates and pasture tracks, generally wide enough. Old wire buried in a fence line is the most common surprise, and it costs day count when we find it
4 days

For a single acre in Williston, against one day for another acre nearby. Thickness sets the price here, not acreage, which is why we quote from photographs.

What customers say

★★★★★

FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.

Jenny Anderson
★★★★★

We had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.

Joseph Kelly
★★★★★

These guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.

Before you book: trees on a Levy County parcel

Levy County and the City of Williston each have a say depending on where your parcel sits, and bona fide agricultural land is treated differently from a residential homesite.

What is protected depends on the species, the size of the trunk and how the land is classified. Live oaks of any size tend to attract more attention than understory growth, and agricultural operations are generally handled differently from clearing for development.

Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If the parcel is in agricultural use, say so, because it changes which questions are worth asking.

We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Levy County or the City of Williston before you commit.

Williston questions

How much does it cost to clear land in Williston?

From $3,000 a machine day. What varies here is the number of days, not the rate. One acre took us one day and another acre took four. Send photographs of the thickest part and we will give you a day count you can rely on.

Why did one acre take four days?

Because the growth on it was heavy enough to need the dedicated mulcher and slow enough to fill four days. That was February 2024. It is the clearest example we have of why an acreage figure on its own tells you almost nothing about price.

How long will mine take?

Three of our four Williston jobs were a single machine day, including a two acre parcel, so one day is the common case. We will tell you before you book if we think yours is the other kind, and we would rather be wrong in your favour.

Can you clear pasture that has gone back to scrub?

Yes, and it is regular work in this county. The chip layer left behind holds the surface, which matters on ground you intend to graze again.

Will you clear a fence line?

Yes. A cut line you can run wire along without disturbing the pasture either side. Warn us about old wire in the growth, because that is the thing most likely to add a half day.

Do I need a permit?

It depends on the species and size of what is standing, on whether you are inside the City of Williston, and on how the land is classified. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
