What we clear in Hilliard

Eight things we are actually asked for on Nassau County ground. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.

Forestry mulching

One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.

Underbrush removal

Gallberry, palmetto and briar taken out from under planted pine you are keeping. The standard brief out here.

Homesite and lot clearing

A wooded acre taken back to a building envelope, with the trees you want kept still standing.

Timber ground cleanup

Cutover and replant ground tidied back to something a planter or a mower can cross.

Selective clearing

You mark what stays and we cut round it. On planted ground the rows give the machine a line to work along.

Excavator clearing and grubbing

Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.

Home site preparation

Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives.

Trail and firebreak cutting

Rides through a block, food plot lanes, and a cut line between your buildings and the timber.

Who calls us in Nassau County

Timber and land owners

Ground between rotations, or a block where the understory has closed in since the last thin. This is timber country and most of our work reflects that.

People building on a rural acre

Clearing the envelope, the drive and the pad before the builder mobilises, on ground where utilities arrive after the clearing does.

Neighbours clearing together

Two adjoining acres in one visit is exactly what we did here in July 2024, and it is the cheapest way to buy a machine day.

Hunting lease and camp owners

Rides, food plot lanes and a clear area round a camp. Quiet, quick work that leaves chip rather than slash.

Commuters out from the city

Ground bought for space that needs opening up before anything else happens on it.

Sellers and agents

A parcel nobody can walk is a parcel nobody buys. A machine day changes what a buyer is looking at.

How the work runs

Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.

Send photographs

Pictures with something in frame for scale, the parcel size, and a note on what you want left standing. If it is planted pine, a shot down a row tells us more than an aerial does.

We give you a real number

Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote. Every Hilliard job so far has been one day on the skid steer.

One machine, one pass

The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which is where most of the cost and all of the mess normally sits.

You get a mulch layer

Not bare ground and not a field of cut stems. It holds the surface through the wet months and slows down what comes back.

What it costs

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Hilliard has run clean: three jobs, three single days, all on the skid steer, which is the machine with transport included in the rate.

Skid steer mulcherFrom $3,000

Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine recorded on all three of our Hilliard jobs

Excavator mulcherFrom $3,500

Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport

Dedicated mulcherFrom $4,000

Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run

What moves the day count

The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

What we have actually done in Hilliard

Three finished jobs and three machine days, from July 2024 to November 2025. One day each, every time.

Jul 2024Two neighbouring parcels at one acre each, 1 machine day each, in the same visit
Nov 2025A quarter acre, 1 machine day
The machineAll three ran with the skid steer mulcher, the one with transport included
Elsewhere in the countyTwo more jobs at Callahan and Fernandina Beach

Two of the three Hilliard jobs were a neighbouring pair booked together and run back to back. If you and the owner next door both want clearing, ask together, because the machine is already on site and the transport is already paid. Across Nassau County we have finished five jobs in five machine days.

The ground on a Nassau County parcel

What grows herePlanted slash and loblolly pine over gallberry and saw palmetto across most of west Nassau, with sweetgum and yaupon filling any gap left by a thin or a harvest, and bottomland hardwood along the creeks and the St Marys
What that means for a machinePlanted rows give the machine a line to work along, which is why an acre here is a straightforward day. Gallberry is denser than it looks and is the usual reason a block runs longer than the acreage suggests
SoilSand over clay rather than deep peninsula sand, so the ground holds together under tracks but stays wet longer after rain. Winter and early spring are usually the cleanest time to book
AccessRural county roads and timber tracks, generally wide. Old fence wire buried in a line is the most common surprise and it costs day count when we find it
2 acres

Cleared in a single visit at Hilliard, two neighbouring parcels back to back. Asking together with a neighbour is the one thing that reliably lowers the cost per parcel.

What customers say

★★★★★

FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.

Jenny Anderson
★★★★★

We had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.

Joseph Kelly
★★★★★

These guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.

Before you book: trees on a Nassau County parcel

Nassau County is largely rural and much of it is in timber or agricultural use, which is treated differently from a residential lot inside Hilliard.

Silvicultural work under an approved forestry practice is generally handled differently from clearing for development, and the rules for a lot in town are not the ones for a timber block outside it. Work near the St Marys or a creek may also involve the water management district.

Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If the land is in timber or agricultural use, say so, because it changes which questions are worth asking.

We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Nassau County or the water management district before you commit.

Hilliard questions

How much does it cost to clear land in Hilliard?

From $3,000 a machine day, and all three of our Hilliard jobs were a single day. One day is a fair starting assumption for an acre of typical ground here. Send photographs and we will confirm.

Can you do my neighbour parcel at the same time?

Yes, and we did exactly that in July 2024, two adjoining acres in one visit. It is the cheapest way to buy a machine day, because the machine is already there and the transport is already paid.

Can you mulch under planted pine without hurting the trees?

That is most of what we do out here. The head takes the understory out and the rows give the machine a line to work along. Mark anything you particularly want protected.

How long does it take?

One machine day, three times out of three. Thick gallberry, trees you want kept and wet ground after rain are what would push it, and we say so before you book.

What happens to everything you cut?

It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. On sand over clay that layer holds the surface through the wet months.

Do I need a permit?

It depends on whether the land is in timber or agricultural use, whether you are inside Hilliard, and how close the work is to a creek. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
