What we clear in Winter Garden
Eight things we are actually asked for on lots this size. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.
One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.
A platted lot that has grown in, cleared where it stands. The job here was a third of an acre and that is the commonest size of call in west Orange.
Scrub, briar and palmetto pulled out from beneath the oaks a west Orange lot is usually being bought for. What is left is ground you can walk across.
You mark the live oaks that stay and we cut round them. On a small lot in a built street that list is usually short and specific.
Where the root plate has to leave the site rather than stay in it. That is the 30 inch excavator, and a different rate.
Envelope, drive and pad down to workable ground, with the rest of the lot left exactly as it is.
A drive line in from the road on a lot that has closed at the frontage.
A cut line you can run wire down or walk, with what is either side of it untouched.
Who calls us in Winter Garden and west Orange
The commonest call in this part of the county. A lot between two built houses that has been left long enough that nobody can see the back of it.
Envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before the builder mobilises, so the site is ready rather than a delay in the programme.
An overgrown lot in a made street generates letters from the city. On a lot this size a single machine day is usually the whole answer to one.
Ground nobody can walk is ground nobody prices properly. A day opens it up enough to measure it and to photograph it honestly.
It is not, and we cleared exactly that here. What it does mean is that you are buying a machine day, because the machine still has to be loaded, hauled and unloaded for it.
An acreage price on a fraction of an acre tells you almost nothing, because what is standing on it decides the day rather than the size of the parcel.
How the work runs
Four steps. On a small lot the second one is where you find out whether the job is an hour of work or a full day of it.
From the road and from inside if you can get in. On a lot this size two or three pictures with something in frame for scale is genuinely enough.
That is not us rounding up. Loading, hauling and unloading the machine takes the same time for a third of an acre as it does for three, and the day is the unit we sell.
The head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. Nothing stacks at the frontage, nothing is burnt and no trucks come in and out of a residential street.
Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. On a lot waiting for a builder that layer is what stops the surface washing off before anything is built on it.

What it costs
We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. The lot here was one of them. On a small parcel the only real question is whether it is one day or two, and photographs answer that.
Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine recorded on the job here
Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport
Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run
What moves the day count
The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.
What we have actually done in Winter Garden
One job, a third of an acre, one machine day.
| Jun 2026 | 0.3 acres, 1 machine day, skid steer mulcher |
| What that tells you | A small lot is a day, and the day is what you are buying |
| Across Orange County | Eleven finished jobs and 12.5 machine days |
| Single day jobs in the county | Nine of the eleven |
One row is one row and we are not going to present it as a record. What the county column next to it says is that this is normal work for us rather than a first attempt.
What west Orange ground does to a day count
| Sand ridge | Free draining and quick going where it is open. Most of the built up part of this county sits on it. |
| Live oak and laurel oak | Usually the thing you are keeping rather than the thing being cleared, which slows a machine down because it has to work round them. |
| Palmetto and briar | Standard understorey work and predictable to price. |
| Old citrus rows | Ground that was grove and has gone back. The rows are still there under it and they make the going more even than it looks. |
| Wet flatwoods edges | The low ends of lots near the lake chain. Soft in the wet months and worth photographing before we come out. |
| Lots that have stood ten years | The single biggest multiplier on any day count, small lot or large block. |
Machine day on the Winter Garden lot, June 2026. It is the most recent job on our Orange County record and the smallest parcel in this batch, and it still took a full day once the machine was hauled in and out.
What customers say
FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.
Jenny AndersonWe had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.
Joseph KellyThese guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.
Adam WilsonPermits in Winter Garden are yours
Every county and city in Florida writes its own tree rules and they are not the same. What is protected depends on the species, the size of the trunk and how your parcel is classified.
If your lot sits inside the city limit then the city is your authority rather than the county, and municipal rules in Florida tend to be the stricter of the two. A great many lots in this part of west Orange are inside a city limit, so that is the first thing to establish rather than the last.
Specimen and heritage trees are usually handled separately from everything else on a parcel, and a tree you intended to keep anyway is often the one that needs the form.
We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with the City of Winter Garden or Orange County before you commit.
Winter Garden questions
What does it cost to clear a small lot in Winter Garden?
From $3,000, because that is one machine day and a lot this size is one machine day. We would rather tell you that plainly than quote you a fraction of a day we cannot deliver.
Is a third of an acre really a whole day?
It was here. The cutting itself is not what fills the day on a parcel that size. Loading the machine, hauling it, getting it in through a frontage on a made street and taking it away again is, and that happens whatever the acreage.
Can you get a machine onto a lot between two houses?
Usually, and the photograph we most want is the one of the gap you expect us to come through. Frontage width decides which machine turns up more often than the growth does.
Do you take the roots out?
Not with the mulcher. It grinds off what stands and leaves the root plate where it is. Lifting roots is grubbing, which is the excavator and its own rate.
Do you work the rest of Orange County?
Yes. Eleven finished jobs across five towns, and they are listed on the county page with their acreages and day counts next to them.
Are you licensed and insured?
Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
