What we clear in Vero Beach

Eight things we are actually asked for on Indian River County ground. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.

Forestry mulching

One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.

Brazilian pepper removal

The thing we are asked about most here. Pepper grows back from anything left in the ground, so how much comes out matters more than how much comes off.

Lot clearing

A vacant lot back to ground you can walk, whether it is a quarter acre in town or a couple of acres out west.

Selective clearing

You mark the oaks and the cabbage palms you want kept and we cut round them.

Excavator clearing and grubbing

Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.

Home site preparation

Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives.

Trail and access cutting

A drive line in from the road, or a cut line through a block so you can see what you actually own.

Fence and boundary lines

A line you can run wire along, cut without disturbing what is either side of it.

Who calls us in Indian River County

Owners of a grove lot

Old citrus ground that has been out of production long enough for pepper and cabbage palm to take it back. It looks worse than it is and usually reads well from photographs.

Owners with pepper taking over

Brazilian pepper is the single most common reason anyone here calls us. It seeds fast, it shades out everything else, and it does not stop at your line.

People about to build

Clearing the envelope, the drive and the pad before the builder mobilises, so the site is ready rather than a delay.

Owners with a code letter

An overgrown vacant lot in the city generates letters. A machine day is usually the whole answer.

Buyers of raw ground

Ground west of the ridge that nobody has walked in years. A cut line through it tells you what you bought before you commit to anything else.

Sellers and agents

A parcel nobody can walk is a parcel nobody buys. A day with a mulcher changes what a buyer is looking at.

How the work runs

Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.

Send photographs

Pictures with something in frame for scale, the lot size, and a note on what you want left standing. If pepper has taken it, get in close on one shot.

We give you a real number

Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote.

One machine, one pass

The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which is where most of the cost and all of the mess normally sits.

You get a mulch layer

Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. On sandy coastal ground that layer is what stops the surface blowing and washing.

What it costs

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Our two jobs here are the clearest argument on this whole site for why acreage is the wrong unit.

Skid steer mulcherFrom $3,000

Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine for a lot or a small parcel

Excavator mulcherFrom $3,500

Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport

Dedicated mulcherFrom $4,000

Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run

What moves the day count

How far the pepper has goneTrees you want keptWet ground and swale linesOld grove irrigationAccess and drive widthNeighbouring lots in one visit

The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

What we have actually done in Vero Beach

Two finished jobs, six machine days, Oct 2024 to Jul 2025. A small record, and almost the most useful pair of numbers we have.

Oct 2024One acre, 1 machine day, with the dedicated mulcher
Jul 2025Two acres, 5 machine days, with the skid steer mulcher
The county totalTwo jobs, 6 machine days, both of them here in Vero Beach

Read those two rows next to each other. Twice the acreage took five times the days, and it took them on the cheapest machine we run rather than the dearest. If we priced by the acre, one of those two customers would have been badly overcharged and the other badly undercharged. That is why we quote a day count off photographs instead.

The ground on an Indian River County parcel

What grows hereSand pine and scrub oak on the coastal ridge, cabbage palm and live oak on the flatwoods, and Brazilian pepper filling old grove ground and anything left alone near water
What that means for a machineScrub is quick. Mature pepper is not, because the stems fork low and the thickets are dense enough that the machine works in short bites rather than long passes
WaterFlat ground with a made drainage system. Grove ditches, swales and canals run everywhere out west, and after a wet week the low ground between them is the part that slows a machine down
AccessTown streets on the ridge, grove tracks and canal banks inland. A photograph looking in from the road settles which one you have and whether a low loader can turn in
2 acres

Took five machine days here. One acre a few months earlier took a single day. Same county, same year, five times the work per acre. Acreage is not the unit that matters.

What customers say

★★★★★

FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.

Jenny Anderson
★★★★★

We had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.

Joseph Kelly
★★★★★

These guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.

Before you book: trees on an Indian River County parcel

Indian River County and the City of Vero Beach each have a say depending on where your parcel sits, and ground near a canal or the lagoon may involve the water management district as well.

What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and whether the parcel is a single family homesite or land being developed. Native species and specimen trees attract more attention than invasive growth does. Removing Brazilian pepper is usually treated very differently from removing a live oak, but confirm that for your own parcel rather than assuming it.

Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If the ground runs towards a canal, a ditch or the lagoon, mention it, because that is the case most worth settling before anyone books a machine.

We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Indian River County, the City of Vero Beach or the water management district before you commit.

Vero Beach questions

How much does it cost to clear a lot in Vero Beach?

From $3,000 a machine day. Our two jobs here ran to one day and five days, which is exactly why we ask for photographs before quoting rather than pricing off the acreage.

Why did two acres take longer than one?

Because of what was standing on it, not how much of it there was. Dense mature growth is worked in short bites and a machine covers far less ground per hour than it does in open scrub. The larger job also ran on the smaller machine.

Can you get rid of Brazilian pepper?

We can take it off the ground in a single pass, and that is what most people here want. If you want it gone rather than knocked back, the roots have to come out, which is excavator work and a different machine and rate. Say which you are after.

How long does it take?

Anything from a day to a week here, on the evidence of our own two jobs. Send photographs and we will give you a day count rather than a range.

What happens to everything you cut?

It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. On sandy ground that layer holds the surface and keeps the sand where it is.

Do I need a permit?

It depends on the species and size of what is standing, whether you are inside the City of Vero Beach, and how close the work is to a canal or the lagoon. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
