What we clear in Montura

Eight things we are actually asked for on this ground. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.

Forestry mulching

One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.

Rural lot clearing

A platted acreage lot on the grid that has grown in, cleared in place because there is nowhere out here to take anything to.

Brazilian pepper and brush removal

Pepper, willow and the rest of what fills a lot left standing on this ground, taken off in a single pass.

Access cutting

A way in from the limerock road on a lot that has closed in at the frontage. Out here this is often the first half day of the job.

Selective clearing

You mark the cabbage palms and the oaks that stay and we cut round them.

Excavator clearing and grubbing

Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.

Home site preparation

Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives.

Fence and boundary lines

A line you can run wire along or walk, cut without disturbing what is either side of it.

Who calls us in on the Montura grid

Owners of a lot they have never stood on

Very common here. Ground bought off a plat, some of it never walked, and the first honest question is whether a machine can get to it at all.

People about to build

Envelope, drive and pad on a lot where the house will sit well back from a limerock road.

Owners who need the drive in first

A lot with frontage and no way in is the standard problem on this grid. Cutting the line in is often where the job starts rather than a preliminary.

Owners on the canal lines

The whole grid is drained by cut canals and the banks are soft. Machines and soft edges do not mix, so tell us where yours run before we plan the passes.

Small holdings and stock owners

Ground going back into paddock or pen, where what you want is a stable surface and a clean fence line rather than bare sand.

Sellers and agents

A lot nobody can walk is a lot nobody buys, and out here that is most of them. A machine day changes what a buyer is looking at.

How the work runs

Four steps, and out here the first one carries more weight than usual.

Send photographs

Pictures with something in frame for scale, the lot and block if you have them, and one shot looking in from the road. Access is the whole question on this grid.

We give you a real number

Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote.

One machine, one pass

The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. Out here that matters more than most places, because there is nowhere to take material and a long haul back to anywhere that would want it.

You get a mulch layer

Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. On this ground that layer holds the surface together and keeps the dust down through the dry season.

What it costs

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. This county is the best argument on the whole site for why we will not quote by the acre, and the numbers below make it better than any explanation could.

Skid steer mulcherFrom $3,000

Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine that fits down a narrow limerock frontage

Excavator mulcherFrom $3,500

Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport

Dedicated mulcherFrom $4,000

Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run

What moves the day count

Where the machine gets inHow thick the pepper isLot sizeTrees you want keptCanal and ditch linesHow long the lot has stood

The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

What we have actually done in Montura

One finished job, an acre and a quarter, two machine days, Jun 2024, on the skid steer mulcher.

Jun 20241.25 acres, 2 machine days, with the skid steer mulcher
Elsewhere in the countyEight more jobs across two other towns, from a quarter of an acre up to four acres
The comparison worth makingTwo and a half acres elsewhere in this county went in a single day. An acre and a quarter here took two

Twice the days for half the acreage, in the same county, in the same year. That is the whole case against pricing land clearing by the acre and we did not have to go looking for it. The scope does not record what made the difference, so we are not going to invent a reason, but on this grid the usual suspects are access and how long the lot has stood. Both of them show up in photographs, which is why we ask for them first.

The ground on a Montura lot

What grows hereCabbage palm and scattered oak over a lot of it, with Brazilian pepper, willow and dense brush filling anything that has been left standing for a few seasons
What that means for a machineBrush and willow go quickly. Mature pepper forks low and grows into itself and it is slow work. A lot that has stood twenty years is a different job from one that has stood five
WaterDead flat, drained entirely by cut canals rather than by fall. The banks are soft and the water table is high, so the edges are what plan the passes
AccessA very large rural grid of limerock roads, with many lots having frontage and no drive at all. What can reach your lot decides more here than anywhere else we work
2 days

For an acre and a quarter here, against two and a half acres in one day elsewhere in this county. Acreage is not the price. What is standing and what can reach it are the price.

What customers say

★★★★★

FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.

Jenny Anderson
★★★★★

We had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.

Joseph Kelly
★★★★★

These guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.

Before you book: trees on a Hendry County lot

Montura is unincorporated, so Hendry County rules apply on this ground, and land in agricultural use is treated differently from a residential lot.

What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and on how the lot is classified. Removing invasive growth such as Brazilian pepper is usually treated very differently from removing a native tree or a specimen palm, but confirm that for your own lot rather than assuming it.

Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If the lot is in an agricultural classification, say so early, because that changes which set of rules you are reading before anything is booked.

We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Hendry County before you commit.

Montura questions

How much does it cost to clear a lot in Montura?

From $3,000 a machine day. Our job here was an acre and a quarter and it took two days. Send photographs and the lot size and we will give you a day count rather than a range.

Why did an acre and a quarter take two days?

The scope does not record why, so we are not going to make something up. On this grid the two usual reasons are access and age of growth. A lot that has stood two decades carries far more than the acreage suggests, and a lot the machine cannot reach directly costs time before any cutting starts.

I have never stood on my lot. Can you still quote?

Yes, and we get asked this here more than anywhere else. Send the lot and block and whatever imagery you can get, and we will tell you what we can see. We would rather call the quote provisional and confirm on the day than pretend otherwise.

Can you get to a lot with no drive?

Usually, and cutting the way in is often the first part of the job rather than something separate. Send a photograph looking in from the road and we will tell you honestly what we can reach.

Can you get rid of Brazilian pepper for good?

We can take it off the lot in a single pass, which is what most people want. If you want it out rather than down, the roots have to come out, and that is excavator work at a different machine and rate.

What happens to everything you cut?

It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. Out here there is nowhere to take it anyway, which is exactly why a mulching machine suits this ground.

Do I need a permit?

It depends on the species and size of what is standing and on how your lot is classified. Montura is unincorporated, so the county is who to ask. Confirm with them rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.
