How the work runs
Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.
Pictures with something in frame for scale, the parcel size, and a note on what you want left standing. On a tight city parcel a shot of the access is as useful as a shot of the growth.
Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote. Miami parcels have averaged just under two machine days each for us.
The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which on a residential street is the difference between a quiet job and a disruptive one.
Not bare ground and not a field of cut stems. It holds the surface and slows down what comes back, which here is measured in months rather than years.

What it costs
We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Our Miami parcels have run at just under two machine days each, which is quicker than the south of the county but slower than open ground elsewhere in the state.

What moves the day count
The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

Two of the five finished inside a single machine day, including the two and a half acre parcel in December 2023. Since then the pattern has been roughly a day per acre, which is what we would quote on now. Four of the five recorded a machine and every one of those ran with the skid steer mulcher. Across Miami-Dade as a whole we have finished eleven jobs and twenty four machine days.

Miami-Dade County runs a tree removal permit programme, and the City of Miami and the other municipalities inside the county each run their own code. Which one applies depends on your address.
What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk. Specimen trees and native species are treated differently from invasive exotics, and the county has taken a distinct line on Brazilian pepper and Australian pine for a long time. A parcel inside a municipality is not automatically governed by the county rules.

Can you get a machine onto a tight city lot?
Usually, and it is the question worth settling first. Send a photograph of the entrance and the street as well as the growth. Frontage width, parked cars and turning room decide the approach more than the size of the parcel does.
What happens to everything you cut?
It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. On a residential street that is the whole point, because the alternative is a line of trucks past your neighbours for a day.
How fast does it grow back?
Faster here than most of the state. Pepper and Australian pine reseed hard after storm season, and a parcel left three years is a materially bigger job than one left one year. The mulch layer slows it but it does not stop it.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the species and size of what is standing, and on whether your parcel sits inside a municipality or in unincorporated Miami-Dade. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.
Are you licensed and insured?
Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
