What we clear in Bonifay

Eight things we are actually asked for on Holmes County ground. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.

Forestry mulching

One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.

Underbrush removal

Gallberry, titi and yaupon taken out from under planted pine or standing hardwood you are keeping.

Homesite and field clearing

Ground that has grown in since it was last mown or last cut, back to something you can drive across.

Selective clearing

You mark what stays and we cut round it. On a place that has been in the family a while, the trees people want kept are rarely the ones a stranger would pick.

Excavator clearing and grubbing

Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.

Home site preparation

Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives.

Firebreak and access lanes

A break round a block, a lane in from the county road, or a line cut so a truck can get to the back of the place.

Fence and boundary lines

A line you can run wire along or walk, cut without disturbing the timber either side of it.

Who calls us in Holmes County

Family landowners

Ground that has been in one name for generations and has quietly grown in since anyone last ran cattle or a mower over it.

Timber owners

Blocks between rotations, or ground where the understory has closed in enough to matter to the next thinning.

People about to build

Clearing the envelope, the drive and the pad before the builder mobilises, so the site is ready rather than a delay.

People putting stock back on ground

Old pasture that has gone to scrub. A mulcher gives you a chip layer and a surface, rather than a field of stobs.

Hunters and lease holders

Lanes, shooting lines and access cut through a block without opening the whole thing up.

Sellers and agents

A parcel nobody can walk is a parcel nobody buys. A day with a mulcher changes what a buyer is looking at.

How the work runs

Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.

Send photographs

Pictures with something in frame for scale, the acreage, and a note on what you want left standing. Show us the thickest part, not the tidiest.

We give you a real number

Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote.

One machine, one pass

The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. No separate clear, pile and haul stage, which is where most of the cost and all of the mess normally sits.

You get a mulch layer

Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. On sandy upland that layer keeps the surface together and holds moisture through a dry spring.

What it costs

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Both of our Holmes County jobs came in around an acre and a half a day, which is a useful benchmark for this ground but not a promise about yours.

Skid steer mulcherFrom $3,000

Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine recorded on our four acre job here

Excavator mulcherFrom $3,500

Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport

Dedicated mulcherFrom $4,000

Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run

What moves the day count

Standing timber you want keptStem size in the thickest partWet ground in the branch bottomsOld fence wireAccess off the county roadNeighbouring acreage in one visit

The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

What we have actually done in Bonifay

Two finished jobs a month apart, five machine days between them, autumn 2025. Every Holmes County job we have on the books is in Bonifay.

Sep 2025Four acres, 3 machine days, with the skid steer mulcher
Oct 2025Two acres, 2 machine days, machine not recorded on the scope
The county totalTwo jobs, 6 acres, 5 machine days

Worth saying plainly: the October scope does not record which machine went, so we are not going to tell you it was one rather than another. What both jobs do show is a rate of roughly an acre and a half a day on this ground, and that the four acre job ran on the smallest machine we own rather than the biggest.

The ground on a Holmes County place

What grows hereLongleaf and slash pine on the sandy uplands, planted rows on a lot of it, live oak and hickory in the hammocks, and gallberry, titi and yaupon filling in underneath wherever fire has been out of the system a while
What that means for a machineUpland pine is good going and a machine covers ground fast. The branch bottoms and the titi thickets are the slow part, and they are usually a small fraction of the acreage but a large fraction of the day count
WaterCreek and branch bottoms cut through the uplands and hold water well after the rain has stopped. A tracked machine copes but works slower, and a wet week is worth a phone call before the day
AccessCounty roads and dirt lanes. Most places here have room for a low loader to turn, but check the gate width and whether the approach firms up or softens after rain
1.5 acres

A machine day, near enough, across both of our Holmes County jobs. Useful as a benchmark for this ground, and not a promise about yours until we have seen photographs.

What customers say

★★★★★

FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.

Jenny Anderson
★★★★★

We had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.

Joseph Kelly
★★★★★

These guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.

Before you book: trees on a Holmes County place

Holmes County and the City of Bonifay each have a say depending on where your parcel sits, and land in genuine silvicultural use is treated differently from a homesite.

What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and whether the parcel is a single family homesite, working timber or land being developed. In a county with this much planted pine on it, the silvicultural questions come up more often than the tree by tree ones do.

Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If the ground is in a timber programme of any kind, say so early, because that changes which office you should be asking.

We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Holmes County or the City of Bonifay before you commit.

Bonifay questions

How much does it cost to clear land in Bonifay?

From $3,000 a machine day. Our two jobs here were three days and two days. Send photographs and the acreage and we will give you a day count rather than a range.

How many acres can you do in a day?

On this ground we have averaged about an acre and a half. That is a real average off two real jobs rather than a marketing figure, and thick titi in a branch bottom will pull it down fast.

Do you work on planted pine?

Yes, and underbrushing between rows is a normal ask here. If the ground is in a timber programme, tell us, because the rules that apply to it are not the same as the ones for a homesite.

How long does it take?

Two to three days for the sizes we have done here. Send photographs of the worst part of the parcel and we will tell you before you commit.

What happens to everything you cut?

It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned. On sandy upland that chip layer holds moisture and stops the surface drifting.

Do I need a permit?

It depends on the species and size of what is standing, whether you are inside the City of Bonifay, and whether the ground counts as working timber. Confirm with the right office rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
