What we clear in Lakewood Ranch

Eight things we are actually asked for on this side of Manatee County. If your job is not on this list, say so and we will tell you straight whether it is ours.

Forestry mulching

One machine cuts standing growth and grinds it back into the ground as chip in the same pass. No pile, no burn, no trucks.

Lot clearing inside a community

A graded lot that has grown in while it waited for a build, cleared without a pile, a burn or a week of trucks.

Palmetto and brush removal

Saw palmetto, wax myrtle and Brazilian pepper taken off in a single pass.

Selective clearing

You mark the live oaks and pines that stay and we cut round them. In a community with a landscape code, that list is usually written down for you.

Excavator clearing and grubbing

Where the roots have to come out rather than the top growth being ground off. Our 30 inch excavator mulcher.

Home site preparation

Building envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before your builder arrives.

Access cutting

A drive line in from the street on a lot that has closed in enough that you cannot get onto your own ground.

Boundary and buffer lines

A clean line along a preserve edge or a rear boundary, cut without disturbing what is either side.

Who calls us in this side of Manatee County

Owners of a held lot

Lots bought ahead of a build that have grown in while the plan went through. One machine day is usually the whole job.

People about to build

Envelope, drive and pad taken down to workable ground before the builder mobilises. Most of what we are asked for on this side of the county.

Owners with a compliance letter

In a community with a landscape code, an overgrown lot generates letters quickly. A machine day is normally the answer.

Owners of a preserve edge

Rear boundaries that back onto a preserve, where the growth comes right up to the line and the rules about it are specific.

Owners further east

The same county turns into open acreage a short drive inland, and those jobs look nothing like these ones.

Sellers and agents

A parcel nobody can walk is a parcel nobody buys. A day with a mulcher changes what a buyer is looking at.

How the work runs

Four steps, and the first two happen before anything leaves our yard.

Send photographs

Pictures with something in frame for scale, the lot size, and one shot looking in from the street. Where the machine gets in matters more here than what is standing.

We give you a real number

Usually the same day. It is a day count against a published rate, not a guess dressed up as a quote.

One machine, one pass

The mulching head cuts, grinds and spreads as it goes. On a lot inside a community that is the whole argument: nothing to store, nothing to burn, nothing to haul.

You get a mulch layer

Not bare sand and not a field of cut stems. On a lot waiting on a build that layer keeps the surface stable and the dust down.

What it costs

We sell machine days, not acres, and we publish the rates. Both jobs here were an acre and a day, and on lots this size the number that moves is working room rather than acreage.

Skid steer mulcherFrom $3,000

Stems to 8 inches. Transport included. The machine that fits between two houses

Excavator mulcherFrom $3,500

Stems to 30 inches, and grubbing. Plus transport

Dedicated mulcherFrom $4,000

Stems to 24 inches. Plus transport. The dearest machine we run

What moves the day count

Where the machine gets inWhere the low loader can sitWhich trees the code protectsNeighbours either sidePreserve or buffer edgesBuild timeline

The rate follows the machine rather than the size of the stem, which catches people out: the dedicated mulcher costs more than the excavator even though the excavator takes bigger timber and pulls roots. Transport is the cost of getting the bigger two machines to you and is separate from hauling material away, which is quoted per job.

What we have actually done in Lakewood Ranch

Two finished jobs in the same month, an acre each, a machine day each, Dec 2024, both on the skid steer mulcher.

Dec 2024One acre, 1 machine day, with the skid steer mulcher
Dec 2024One acre, 1 machine day, with the skid steer mulcher
Further east in the countyThree acres, a day and a quarter, on the same machine

Put those three rows together and you have the whole county in miniature. Two acres here took two full days between them because of working room. Three acres of open ground a short drive east took a day and a quarter on exactly the same machine. Same county, same head, and more than twice the ground covered per day. Space to turn is worth more than horsepower on a lot like these.

The ground on a Manatee County lot

What grows hereSlash pine with saw palmetto and wax myrtle underneath on the flatwoods, live oak and cabbage palm on the higher ground, and Brazilian pepper taking any lot that has been left alone a few seasons
What that means for a machineThe growth is rarely the hard part on a graded lot. Working room is. Mature pepper is slow because it forks low, but on most lots here the day count is set by how much space there is to turn
WaterFlat, low lying and heavily engineered, with ponds and swale lines built into the layout. Standing water is less of a scheduling risk here than in most of the state
AccessMade streets, kerbs, close neighbours and sometimes a gate to get through first. One photograph looking in from the street tells us more about the day count than the lot size does
2.4x

The ground covered per machine day on open acreage east of here compared with a lot inside a community, on exactly the same machine. Working room, not horsepower.

What customers say

★★★★★

FloridaLandClearing.com was beyond helpful in getting our property cleared. They were spot on with their quote, their crews arrived on time, and the machines they used were impressive to watch.

Jenny Anderson
★★★★★

We had a difficult project a few other companies attempted and left. Florida Land Clearing was able to get the job done and a day earlier than quoted.

Joseph Kelly
★★★★★

These guys are pros. Watching these machines just devour acres of underbrush in a day was one of the coolest things I have seen. I cannot believe how this transformed my property.

Before you book: trees on a Manatee County lot

Manatee County rules apply, and on top of them most communities on this side of the county have their own landscape and preserve rules that are stricter than the county code.

What is protected depends on the species and the size of the trunk, and whether the lot is a single family homesite or land being developed. Grand trees and preserve buffers are the two things that come up most often here, and the community rules are usually the binding ones rather than the county code.

Tell us what you want gone and what you want kept when you send photographs. If your lot backs onto a preserve, or your community has an approved landscape plan, send that too, because it is normally more specific than anything we could tell you.

We are a clearing contractor, not the permit office, and we do not file applications. Confirm your own parcel and your own trees with Manatee County and whoever administers your community rules before you commit.

Lakewood Ranch questions

How much does it cost to clear a lot in Lakewood Ranch?

From $3,000 a machine day. Both of our jobs here were an acre and a single day. Send photographs, including one from the street, and we will confirm a day count.

Can you work on a lot with houses either side?

Yes, and it is most of what we do here. Everything is ground in place, so there is no pile to store, no burn and no line of trucks past the neighbours. Send a photograph of the access and we will confirm the machine fits.

What about the community rules?

They are usually stricter than the county code and they are usually more specific. Send us whatever the community has given you in writing. We will work to it, but we are a clearing contractor and not the body that interprets it.

Can you clear right up to the preserve line?

Up to whatever the line actually allows, which is a question worth settling in writing first. Buffers behind these lots are often protected in a way the rest of the lot is not.

What happens to everything you cut?

It stays on the ground as mulch, spread as the machine goes. Nothing piled, nothing burned, nothing hauled. On a lot with nowhere to store anything, that is the point.

Do I need a permit?

Very possibly, and you may need community approval as well as county. It depends on the species and size of what is standing. Confirm with the right offices rather than taking a contractor word for it, ours included.

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, and we send the certificate before the machine moves. Florida does not issue a contractor licence for forestry mulching, so nobody holds one. Insurance is the document worth asking every contractor to produce.
